Mentors

Healthcare is a dynamic field.

Mentorship and continuous professional development are crucial for staying ahead.

They foster growth and innovation.

To younger leaders, find a mentor ASAP. It's critical a critical piece in developing as a leader.

And experienced leaders?

You get to nurture the next generation of healthcare leaders. Don't take this calling for granted.

A lot of people have gone further than they thought they could because someone else thought they could.

– Zig Ziglar

Mentor in a box...err...book

I'm a big Tim Ferriss fan. Along with millions of others. I suspect some of you are as well.

Maybe you still learn from The 4-hour Workweek. The truths are timeless.

Or you lost weight because of the slow-carb diet in The 4-Hour Body.

He's a great storyteller, packing big ideas into compelling narratives.

So if you haven't read his Tribe of Mentors. Do not hesitate.

It is a massive tome.

Seriously, it's huge.

But don't be intimidated. You don't have to read it in one go.

Dip in. Just take a sip.

There are over 100 brief entries from leaders in a myriad of disciplines.

Steven Pressfield. (We mentioned him last week.)

Matt Ridley, one of our optimism heroes.

Peter Attia, health guru.

Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project.

This list goes on.

These mentors are available to you. You don't have to know them.

They can be alive and well.

Or we can remember them as a life well-lived. Charlie Munger comes to mind here:

I think that a life properly lived is just learn, learn, learn all the time.”

– Charlie Munger, 2017 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting

Read the book. Start cataloging important truths. Learn.

Memorize them. Have them at the ready.

Wherever you are in your healthcare leadership career...

These valuable truths are available to you.

Markets Move Fast

Worried about the market tanking after a recession is announced?

History shows that by the time you hear the news, the market’s already made its move.

Take the 2007-2009 financial crisis: stocks dropped over 40% before the recession was officially called.

And by the time the “end of recession” headline hit, the market had already bounced back.

The takeaway? Stick to your plan and don’t let headlines drive your decisions.

Until next time…

Good luck and Godspeed,

John
